Maddens is an exclusive hotel resort set in over a 1000 acres and situated northwest of Brainerd on the shores of Gull Lake. This is where our daughter and son-in-law both work and where I saw for the first time Stan taking part in one of the sports of the Minnesotans, fishing! It is something that he has always said he would never do, too slow, too boring. The lagoon in Maddens usually houses the owner's two sea planes but on this occasion three men with fishing rods in hand set forth to catch the variety of fish offered in this part of the lake. I did notice that as time went on, one of the men was not prepared to bait his hook with the slippery leeches or even touch the beautiful fish that were caught! But he happily caught the fish and actually got quite excited by it! Between the three of them they caught sunfish, large mouthed bass, rock bass and blue gill anything from 1/4lb to 2lb and at least 45 fish in the time we were there. After the snow fall all the day before, the sun was out and the temperature rose to about 55 degrees. A beautiful afternoon's fishing, a great experience, lots of fresh air and all rounded off with excellent pizza in the lagoon side cafe.
