The volcanic ash is still having effects on our family. Richard and Ed were due to fly out on the Delta airlines direct flight to Minneapolis which leaves Heathrow at 1430. Unfortunately because of the ash cloud it was delayed coming in to Heathrow and in the end the flight left after 1600. Again because of the ash, the plane couldn't fly its usual route and had to detour over the top of Greenland and down over Canada, crossing Hudson Bay and approaching the Great lakes from the North. This put time on to the flight. They eventually reached Brainerd around 2315.
In the meantime, Emily, as it was Sunday had been trying to contact Ed both by skype and by phone and we had had to tell her a few tall stories to enable the secret to be kept. Keeping her up until they arrived was also a problem and we had to make all sorts of excuses to keep her out of bed ready for work on Monday morning.
The two brothers walked in and the surprise was sprung!
